The Skills Development Amendment Act, No. 37 of 2008 defines ‘Learning Programme’ to include a learnership, an apprenticeship, a skills programme and any other prescribed learning programme which includes a structured work experience component.
The learning programme department is therefore responsible for the implementation of the above and aligns and give impetus to the LGSETA’s vision and strategic priority areas viz:
- Infrastructure and Service Delivery
- Financial Viability
- Community Based Participation and Planning
- Management and Leadership and
- ABET
In driving the afore-mentioned priority areas which we view as individual programmes, the learning programme Department is also managing a host of projects under each of the programmes.
Partnerships with Professional bodies and Institutions of Higher learning is currently one of the key vehicles for implementing projects and achieving set goals and objectives.
In addition to its project management function the Learning Programme Department is also responsible for fulfilling the following functions:
- Establishing learning programmes
- Registering Learnerships
