LGSeta Mandate

The Local Government Sector Education & Training Authority (LGSETA) is one of the 23 Seta’s established in terms of the Skills Development Act No 97 of 1998. This SETA has been mandated to make possible the implementation of skills development initiatives and interventions that covers the training and development of local municipal workers, the unemployed, traditional leaders, and ward councillors with the objective of uplifting communities through basic service delivery particularly water and sanitation, provision of housing, a clean environment and all the basic human rights which the state is duty-bound to accomplish.

Our mandate, in its simplest form, is to foster skills development in local government. Of course, achieving that is never as simple as it sounds. Our role is not only to educate, it’s to anticipate future problems and areas for improvement, to enable service delivery, to ensure the right skills are working in the right places, to understand and respond to the implications of new legislation and to pass that knowledge on.
