Two important events were held in the first quarter of this year. The Free State and the Northern Cape held Colloquiums on Skills Development and Capacity Building in the Local Government Sector. The Free State Colloquium was held on the 14th March 2008 at the Indaba Lodge, Bloemfontein. On the 3rd April the Northern Cape held their Colloquium at the Desert Palace, Upington. The theme for the events was: ‘To deliver cutting-edge skills to make municipalities functional’. The LGSETA is poised to open wider consultative processes to ensure that the delivery of skills development programs is in line with the need of our members. This is part of our second phase to improve the skills of our constituency-local government. The colloquiums serve as navigation tools as we transverse the uncharted territories in municipal skills development.
To ensure the implementation of skills development in Municipalities through clear linkage between the WSP and IDPs’. To clearly define the LGSETA mandate in supporting Skills Development in municipalities and the sector as a whole. To present the findings of the 2007 skills audit as captured in the SSP for LGSETA and agree on the implementation plan. To create a platform for strategic input to the LGSETA and assist Municipalities, Government and Service Providers to respond to the Local Government sector skills development challenges
